Tips to keep your teeth healthy

Brush your teeth twice a day

Brushing your teeth twice a day is important for dental health. It removes plaque and food particles from the mouth that could lead to tooth decay or gum disease. The American Dental Association recommends brushing with fluoride toothpaste after breakfast and before bedtime, so it’s best to keep some in your bathroom cabinet at all times!

Be sure to get a good clean in the back of your mouth where the molars are by using a dental pick or small flexible interdental cleaner. Flossing is also really important as it removes food particles that may be stuck between your teeth.

Brush for 2 minutes or longer, and use an electric toothbrush if possible.

A recent study has shown that brushing your teeth for less than two minutes may not be enough to remove plaque and bacteria from the mouth. Brushing for at least two minutes is recommended to avoid tooth decay, gum disease, or other dental problems.

If you have an electric toothbrush: Use it! Electric toothbrushes clean better than manual ones because they oscillate brush heads more quickly and efficiently.

A Waterpik can help too!

A Waterpik can help too! It uses a jet of water at high pressure to remove plaque from areas that are otherwise hard to reach with a toothbrush like under the gumline. Using this device regularly can reduce gingivitis, bleeding while you brush, and most importantly periodontal disease! Be sure to use warm salt water when rinsing after each use to help remove food particles from your soft tissue.
